Take 17: MLB Postseason

Take 17: MLB Postseason

The motto of this year's MLB Playoffs: Take '17. Every team is talented and deep; there's no telling who might walk away with the 2017 championship. Here, we look back on the Arizona/Los Angeles NLDS.

Turner And Burner, Game 1

Turner And Burner, Game 1

LA's Justin Turner, a first-time All-Star in 2017, opened the Dodgers' postseason scoring with a three-run homer to left off Arizona's Taijuan Walker. The blast, which followed Chris Taylor's single and Corey Seager's walk, put LA up 3-0 in the 1st.

D-Backs CF A.J. Pollock, who iced the NL Wild-Card game with a two-run triple late, got Arizona on the board with a 3ird-inning home run off Clayton Kershaw—who'd held him hitless in seven tries during the regular season.

Justin Turner Strikes Again, Game 1

Three of four Dodgers reached against pitcher Zack Godley to open the 4th, with one scoring. Up stepped Turner with men on the corners—he worked the count full before lining one to center, putting LA up 5-1.

Even THIS year, who would expect two men with seven combined HR in 409 at-bats to go back-to-back against MLB's top pitcher? That's exactly what happened in the 7th, courtesy of Arizona's Ketel Marte and Jeff Mathis. Along with JD Martinez' blast in the 6th, the Snakes now had four homers off Kershaw...and STILL trailed!

The Big Red RBI Machine, Game 1

The Big Red RBI Machine, Game 1

Remember, folks: the Mets GAVE Justin Turner away four years ago. Now, after a 72-win season in which their 3B didn't play an inning, they sit home watching Turner tie Pedro Guerrero's Dodger record with five RBI in a postseason game.

Long Name, Longer Bomb, Game 2

Long Name, Longer Bomb, Game 2

In the first inning of Game 2, Dodger SP Rich Hill challenged Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt with 88 at the belt. Rich Hill lost that challenge—Goldy dumped it off (or near) the Budweiser sign high above the LF wall, giving the D-Backs the early 2-0 advantage.

Ray Couldn't Stay, Game 2

Ray Couldn't Stay, Game 2

Taking the mound after a 34-pitch relief appearance in the NL Wild-Card game just three days prior, Robbie Ray's arm just couldn't match his guts. He labored through 4.2 IP, walking four, hitting one and firing a trio of wild pitches. Ray left trailing 3-2.

Dodgers' Four-Run 5th, Game 2

Though Ray's wildness presented opportunities to do so, the Dodgers failed to lower the boom until the 5th, when they plated four against a trio of Snakes hurlers. C Austin Barnes accounted for two of them with his off-balance rip of an 0-2 Jimmie Sherfy curve. Aided by Arizona's shifted OF defense, Barnes' hit became a two-run double—LA led 7-2 when the dust settled.
