Take 17: MLB Postseason

Take 17: MLB Postseason

The motto of this year's MLB Playoffs: Take '17. So many dominant, talented teams—there's no telling who might win it all, which is how it SHOULD be. TSR will examine all 11 postseason series, leading off with the National League Wild Card Game...

Paul Packs The Power

Paul Packs The Power

It was only fitting that Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona's franchise player and the only remaining member of their last playoff team, kick off the Wild Card game scoring—which he did with a three-run jack in the 1st inning.

Ray's Relief Retards Rockies

Ray's Relief Retards Rockies

In the Wild Card game, it's truly all hands on deck. So when D-Backs ace Zack Greinke only lasted 3.2 innings, the team turned to 15-game winner Robbie Ray to open the 5th. Ray went the next 2.1, protected Arizona's 6-4 lead, threw 27 of 34 pitches for strikes and halted Colorado's momentum.

You Sure That Wasn't JACKIE Bradley?

You Sure That Wasn't JACKIE Bradley?

As 'Zona fought to protect their ever-shrinking lead, two insurance runs came from a most unlikely source—RP Archie Bradley, he of six hits and 37 K in 61 career AB. Facing tough Pat Neshek in the 7th, Bradley drove a two-run triple to right-center—runs that proved crucial later on.

No-Quit Nolan

Though their sails certainly lost wind following Bradley's hit, Colorado wouldn't die. Superrstar 3B Nolan Arenado ripped a LONG one-out homer to CF, cutting the gap to 8-6...for a couple minutes, anyway.

Hey, I Can Bash, Too

Trevor Story was pretty awesome last year, and though he slumped in 2017 (110-point SLG dip; league-worst 191 K), his kind of talent doesn't fade overnight. Facing Bradley, Story immediately followed Arenado's bomb with one of his own—suddenly, it was a one-run game yet again.

Pollock Joins The Party

Pollock Joins The Party

After watching his teammates belt three triples in the first seven innings, D-Backs CF A.J. Pollock (the 2017 Arizona triples leader) said, "Let me show y'all how it's done." With that, he smoked a two-run triple of his own to RCF, and came in himself on a bunt soon after—Snakes lead 11-7.

Marvelous Marte

Marvelous Marte

Speaking of triples, rookie Arizona SS Ketel Marte belted two of the team's four in their eventual 11-8 win. For perspective, that matched Marte's regular-season triples total...in 73 games! (By the way, it had been 114 years since any team tripled four times in one postseason game.)
