2017 NFL ICY HOT TD, Week 12

What is NFL ICY HOT TD, anyway? I'll tell you—ICY HOT TD = In Case You Had Other Things To Do.

While some of us are able to watch NFL football all Sunday long and follow it up with postgame analysis/highlight shows well into the night...many of us can't. I aim to bring those fans bits of trivia, data, and news  they likely missed on Game Day.

Such as:

 

 

• By beating New Orleans 26-20 at home, the Rams broke an opponent's eight-plus win streak for the first time since snapping the 1990 49ers' 10-game win streak.

• Buffalo went to Kansas City and won 16-10, despite K Stephen Hauschka's record streak of 50-plus yard field goals ending at 13; he bricked a 52-yarder in Q2. However, his 56-yarder later on extended his Bills season record of 50+-yarders (seven and counting).

 

• On Thanksgiving, Dallas fell at home to the Chargers 28-6, with Rod Smith's Q4 TD snapping their franchise-record shutout streak at 10 quarters. Dallas has now been held below 10 points in three straight games for the first time ever, although TE Jason Witten set a career Thanksgiving record for receiving yards, finishing the day with 853.

• The Chargers had gone a record 48 years without playing on Turkey Day.

• Minnesota got past host Detroit 30-23 on Thursday Night Football; in that game, Detroit's Darius Slay blocked a field goal, allowing teammate Nevin Lawson to return it 77 yards to paydirt...only for Slay to be called offside and the TD wiped off.

 

• Philadelphia enjoyed their third consecutive 28-point win, over the visiting Bears. Somehow, the 9-2 Eagles got there without a single 100-yard receiver in 2017, until TE Zach Ertz did so in this game. (Ertz's 97 yards in Week 2 had been the team high.)

• In the loss, the Bears became the first team since the 2012 Chiefs to go without a first down in the first half.

• The visiting Titans got by Indianapolis 16-10. They had not swept the Colts since 2002, having gone winless in nine tries at Lucas Oil Stadium since it opened in 2008. 

 

• Additionally, Tennessee's eight total sacks were one shy of the franchise record, most recently set by the Houston Oilers in 1971.

• In Jerry Springer fashion, the Raiders handed their bitter rival Broncos consecutive loss #7—Denver's first such skid since 1967. 

• In Atlanta's 34-20 victory over visiting Tampa Bay, WR Julio Jones eclipsed 250 receiving yards for the third time in his career. Nobody else has ever done it more than once.

 

• Falcons WR Mohammed Sanu threw his third career TD pass and is now 6-for-6 passing in his career.

• In Seattle's 24-13 road win over the 49ers, TE Jimmy Graham broke the team's single-season and career records for TD catches by a TE, with eight and 16 respectively. It was win #63 for QB Russell Wilson, breaking Joe Flacco's NFL record for a QB's first six seasons.

• Cincinnati beat the visiting Browns 30-16, reaching 100 yards rushing as a team for only the second time in 2017.

 

• Patriots QB Tom Brady set a record for 40-year-olds with his 26th touchdown pass of 2017, as New England trounced visiting Miami 35-17. (Brett Favre and Warren Moon previously held the record of 25.)

• Brady's teammate Rob Gronkowski put up his 16th multi-TD game as a Patriot, breaking Randy Moss's team record.

• Nothing really worth mentioning from Washington's 20-10 Thanksgiving win over the visiting Giants, Green Bay losing in Pittsburgh 31-28, the Jaguars losing in Arizona 27-24, the host Jets falling to Carolina 35-27, or Baltimore's 23-16 home win over Houston on Monday Night Football.
