2017 NFL ICY HOT TD, Week 11

What is NFL ICY HOT TD, anyway? I'll tell you—ICY HOT TD = In Case You Had Other Things To Do.

While some of us are able to watch NFL football all Sunday long and follow it up with postgame analysis/highlight shows well into the night...many of us can't. I aim to bring those fans bits of trivia, data, and news  they likely missed on Game Day.

Such as:

 

 

• AFC South-leading Jacksonville defeated host Cleveland 19-7. They had not been a division leader 10 games into a season since 1999. Their four-game winning streak is their longest since 2007.

• Meanwhile, Cleveland is enduring the worst 47-game stretch in league history—they've won exactly four of those games.

• In Detroit's 27-24 road win over the Bears, Lions CB D.J. Hayden returned a fumbled snap for a TD. That makes seven defensive scores for Detroit this year, tying a team record.

• After it sparked them to a Week 10 victory, Pittsburgh continued to use their no-huddle offense in Week 11. The result: a 40-17 home win over Tennessee on Thursday Night Football. Marcus Mariota threw four picks in the loss, not done by a Titans QB since Steve McNair in 2004.

 

• From glory to gloom: rookie Texans RB D'onta Foreman scored his first career touchdown early in the 4Q...then tore his Achilles adding another TD seven minutes later, completely untouched on the 34-yard run. At least his team beat the Cardinals 31-21.

• Arizona lost despite WR Larry Fitzgerald miving into fifth place in all-time receiving yards, passing Tony Gonzalez' 15, 126. Fitz ended the game with 15, 157. Another star WR, ex-Texan Andre Johnson, became entrant #1 into the team's Ring Of Honor.

• Though they lost to the visiting Buccanneers 30-20, the Dolphins executed their three longest pass plays of the year: 45 and 61 yards to Kenny Stills and 45 yards to Jarvis Landry.

 

• Cincinnati went into Denver and won 20-17; their last victory in the Mile High city came in 1975, a span of 10 games. At one point in the game, Bengals QB Andy Dalton's statline read the following: 0 yards, 1 TD (sacks will do that.)

• Special teams notes from that game: Bronco's K Brandon McManus drilled a 61-yard field goal...that didn't count; Cincinnati called timeout. Bengals DB Dre Kilpatrick managed to return a pick 101 yards and not score.

• RB C.J. Anderson scored Denver's first 1Q rushing TD of 2017.

 

• The Chargers set a franchise record with 37 1H points on the way to a 54-24 home win over Buffalo—the 54 points are an 11-year Charger high. In defeat, Bills K Steven Hauscha drilled his 13th straight FG of 50+ yards. Furthermore, his six such FG in 2017 ties Buffalo's team record.

• Baltimore shut out host Green Bay 23-0, their third SHO of '17. It's their first three-shutout season since 2000, and the first by any NFL team since the 2003 Patriots. It was also John Harbaugh's 100th coaching win, including postseason.

• A sign of things to come for the Pack: rookie 7th-rounder Devante Mays fumbled on his first NFL carry, adding another later for good measure.

 

• Minnesota romped the visiting Rams 24-7 on the strength of 288 2H yards; that doesn't seem to be a record but does it really have to be? That's a lot of yards. Vikings DE Brian Robison's back injury sidelined him after 76 consecutive games played.

• Dallas fell to Philly at home 37-9; they've now been outscored 47-0 in their past two second halves.

• In Mexico's Aztec Stadium—7200 feet above sea level—K Stephen Gostkowski ended the 1H with a Pats record 62-yard FG, helping them upend Oakland 33-8. Tom Brady now has 300-yard games in Mexico, England and the U.S.A.

• Seattle's 34-31 home loss to the Falcons snapped an 11-game Monday Night Football win streak.
